Young professional mortgage seekers are targeting property in south-west London, new research has shown.
According to the Lloyds TSB study, aspiring urbanites are being attracted by the capital’s SW post codes, with Fulham proving the most popular spot among those looking to put down roots and focus on their career.
The investigation revealed these regions account for ten of the 20 areas attracting the highest number of these individuals, with Battersea Wimbledon and Wandsworth among the most sought-after locations in the city.
Outside of London, south Manchester’s Didsbury was the most favoured location for young professionals, followed by Jesmond in Newcastle, Broomhill and Fulwood in Sheffield and West Bridgford in Nottingham.
Suren Thiru, housing economist at Lloyds TSB, noted the usual profile of this group “is that they tend to have university qualifications, are in well-paid occupations and like to take full advantage of living in or close to the city”.
Mr Thiru explained the findings correlate with this generalisation, but pointed out people will usually be required to pay a significant premium if they wish to live in these locations.
