People in the UK are keen to obtain a mortgage and purchase a house sooner rather than later, new research has suggested.
Published by the Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML), the report revealed 81 per cent of survey respondents hope to buy a dwelling within the next decade.
It was demonstrated that, despite finances remaining tight in the aftermath of the economic downturn, 74 per cent of those questioned are aiming to get the keys to a new pad in the next two years.
Based on the results of a YouGov poll and compiled by CML chief economist Bob Pannell, the article revealed individuals under the age of 35 are the keenest to obtain a mortgage and move up the property ladder in the near-future.
Although 54 per cent of those in this age bracket currently renting or sharing with friends and family have aspirations to become homeowners in the short-term, just 33 per cent believe this dream will be realised within two years.
Mr Pannell stated: “The results clearly show that the British love affair with home-ownership is far from over. But achieving the home-ownership dream has become more difficult for people.”
