The average price of a house has risen above £250,000 for the first time.
According to new figures released by Rightmove, the average asking price for a home in the UK currently sits 1.2 per cent higher in the last month at £252,798.
However, this depended massively on the region a house was located, with prices in Greater London normally around £515,243, compared to £157,183 in Yorkshire and the Humber.
Asking rates rose most dramatically in East Anglia – up 4.4 per cent on the same period 30 days ago – while Yorkshire and the Humber was the worst performing region in this regard, down 0.5 per cent.
North-west England recorded an elevation of 1.7 per cent on June’s prices – with the average currently £168,013 in the rainy region.
Miles Shipside, director of Rightmove, said: “The good news is that this indicates a wider upturn, albeit at historically low but increasing volumes.”
The figures are likely to be used by those critical of the government’s new help to buy mortgage scheme, with some arguing the programme will create a new housing bubble.
