Many women in the UK wish to get on the housing ladder because they believe mortgage payments represent a better use of money than renting costs.
This is according to new research from Post Office Mortgages, which found 41 per cent of women highlighted this as their main reason for wanting to access the property market.
The study – carried out by Opinium Research on behalf of the Post Office – suggested females are more cash savvy than their male counterparts in this regard, as just 33 per cent of men cited such savings as their primary incentive for buying a home .
Despite this, the survey revealed young guys appear keener to purchase a dwelling sooner rather than later, with 36 per cent stating they intend to do so in the near future.
This was slightly higher than the 32 per cent of ladies who answered the same.
Mike Cook, head of mortgages at the Post Office Mortgages, noted: “All first time buyers need to make sure they don’t compromise on getting the right mortgage to help them get on the property ladder.”
