Midlothian is home to youngest mortgage seekers

Midlothian appears to be home to the youngest mortgage seekers in Scotland, as new research has shown the average age of home purchasers in the area is 27.
Carried out by Bank of Scotland, the study revealed this is the youngest throughout all of the country’s regions, where there is little difference across the ages of all first-time buyers (FTBs).
Indeed, the average for the nation as a whole is 28 – one year beneath the typical age in other parts of the UK.
Nitesh Patel, housing economist at Bank of Scotland – which is authorised by the Financial Services Authority – said: “The variation in age between the youngest and oldest [FTBs] in Scotland is relatively low, just three years compared to almost a decade seen in England and Wales.”
Other areas in Scotland with low first time buyer ages – all standing at 28 – include Fife, north Lanarkshire, Falkirk, west Lothian, east Dunbartonshire and Clackmannanshire.
